Furiously Avoided Quandries
(or frequently asked questions)
Where are the Perils?
The perils can be found on the side of the side of the old Improvements Fitness Centre, visible from The Council Car Park at the corner of Woongarra and Maryborough St in Bundaberg Central. The trouble plays out from 7-9pm every night, 8-12 December.
How Do I Save a hero?
To help save a hero, all you have to do is send an SMS message with the correct password to 0488 847 417. The tally on the wall will say how many correct SMS messages are required in order to save the hero. Once this number is reached, they will be safe!
Can I send more than one Message?
You can only send a helping password once per scene! After this, you’ll need to coerce others to send messages from their own unique numbers in order to increase the tally. Safety is a team sport, and there’s only so much one person can do, you know?!
You will be able to help again in later scenes - so stand by!
Does the SMS cost me anything?
There is no additional charge to send a password via SMS. Standard carrier costs apply, depending on your phone plan. There is no premium charge.
How fast do the messages work?
It can take up to 30 seconds for your message to make a difference, depending on network delays - so don’t leave it too late!
what happens if A hero doesn’t get saved?
Unspeakable things! They will suffer a tragic fate, and won’t be seen again for the rest of the night.
How does a hero get unlocked?
Throughout the whole season in Bundaberg, a hero can be ‘unlocked’ if they are saved a total of three times! These can be across any night of the season - the total will accumulate.
What does it mean when a hero gets unlocked?
Once a hero is unlocked, you will have access to their legacy! This includes the opportunity to claim a character memento (see below), and to see a snapshot of their brightest future livelihood!
DID SOMEBODY SAY SCAVENGER HUNT?
One commemorative enamel pin is available to claim as a reward for each hero. These have been hidden in local businesses throughout the city centre. Once a hero has been unlocked, you’ll find a clue pointing to where their pin has been hidden. First person to claim the pin gets to keep it! More information can be found on each character legacy page, which is available only once the character is unlocked.
Is Bootman single?
Unfortunately, no. But our video designer, Craig Wilkinson is! Hit him up!
why are all of these heroes in such perilous circumstances?
Well, sometimes life be like that. These heroes just found themselves in trouble - it’s nobody’s fault! All we know is we’re here now - and we have the opportunity to do something.
what’s this all about though?
Well. If you really have to ask. Avoidable Perils is our way of playing with ideas about activism in the attention economy, and the challenge of social cooperation towards a greater good. In our democratic reality, it’s often the case that our agency for change depends on mass support - whether through petitions, rallies, crowd-funding, or votes.
Though we may have a range of real perils to fight, these ideas have taken on a whole new resonance this year in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic; where individual choices have a very significant impact on our collective wellbeing.
Who are the real heroes?
You are. We all are.
In the face of peril, we have to realise that there is no lone saviour around the corner. We are all the heroes, and safety is a team sport!
Who is responsible for this nonsense?
